Sport Partner Spotlight
Water Polo Canada
Compete Partner: Level 1 Certified Status in Club Excellence in conjunction with Repsol Sport Centre's sport criteria and integrated sport training services. Concentration on Stages 5 and 6 of the Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework.
Water Polo Canada has centralized the Men’s National Team in Calgary at Repsol Sport Centre since the inception of the National Training Centre in September 1998.
Training at this world-class facility has been a pleasure because of its hard-working administrative staff and the friendly faces that greet us in the Aquatics Department every day of the year. Additionally, the facility has all the accoutrements necessary to train at an Olympic level, which is particularly helpful when Team Canada trains for the Olympics, as they have every day since the National Training Centre began. Repsol Sport Centre staff knows the Olympics isn’t just every four years, it’s every day for four years at a time, and this attitude is what sets the facility apart from others of its kind.
Team Canada’s partnership with Repsol Sport Centre allowed the athletes to qualify and participate at the highest level, the 2008 Olympiad in Beijing, China, qualifying for the first time through the ‘front door’.
It is with great pleasure that Water Polo Canada can continue this valuable partnership in the future for the success of its grassroots and NextGen athletes, as well as for those training and competing at the highest level.
“Being the official National Training Centre for the Men’s National Water Polo Team provides our team and the City with a sense of pride and accomplishment,” says Jeff Booke, CEO of Repsol Sport Centre. “It’s a pleasure to watch this team evolve over the years as they train for excellence under our tent 6 days a week.”
